A Bright and Breezy California Entry

March 21, 2020 by Kathleen Gretz

Very often (well actually always) when I design a pattern I imagine what it might go on. Drapes, shades, walls, pillows…? Hmmm, Dahlia Stripe would look great on all of these, but today I’m picturing it on a chair – something with a straighter profile that will work well with the stripes of the print. The large scale and big contrast could make a show-stopping statement piece. Perfect for an entry.

I love entries that are full of life and color. They say “welcome home you hard working, lovely person!” Here’s a vignette with some of my favorites! Who wouldn’t want to walk through the front door to this friendly and fresh scene?

Start with pattern! This is my Dahlia Stripe in Indigo. The stripe makes it a little beachy and the flowers add some fun. I’d put a little pillow in the Dahlia Stripe in Ray with it. Maybe add some pom pom trim for a little extra somethin-somethin.

It would look great on this Jessica Charles skirted chair. This one is perfect but honestly, every single one is beautifully made and super comfy.

The chair would look great next to this absolutely stunning chest. I used to have this on the floor at the studio but a customer fell in love with it and took it home. A new one will takes its place! The brass accents are so beautiful with the blue lacquer finish. This piece is heirloom quality really.

Art is our next big element. I discovered Barloga Studios about 6 years ago at High Point Market. Talk about stop-in-your-tracks photography. Visit their site – they are having a great sale right now to help out their college student studio staff during this virus crisis. I own this piece, and a few others. I adore looking at it every day!

Accessories! It’s so much fun to do a little styling. I love a good blue and white bowl! Textured boxes and baskets go such a long way in every vignette. And simple vases can move all around the house.

Small works of art add such big impact. Grouped on walls or a single piece leaning on a shelf, they speak volumes about your personal style. This summer I’ll be introducing original works and fine art prints to the site for you to enjoy and use for your special vignettes.

Baskets. Well, I love all of them from Palecek. Textured, roomy and perfect for lots and lots of uses – especially large palms!

Aren’t great entries the best! So much beauty packed into a little space. I hope you’ve liked this post. I’ve loved sharing it with you. Remember to start with pattern, then find your California Style one True Vignette at a time.

All my love – Kathleen
