It’s late summer but I’m already looking forward to Fall. I’m ready to be a little chilly. I think September is my favorite month. Weather-wise it’s the perfect time to be over at the beach. And on the valley side of the Santa Cruz mountains, the leaves will be turning on all their Fall colors – especially the yellows.
Lately I’m into the deep yellows. Like a dijon yellow. There’s something warm and inviting about it. It’s also a great transition color from Summer to Fall. And it loves to play with all the other colors in the Fall sandbox. My newest fabric collection is Encanta. It’s full of rich, bold (but not too bright) colors of the coming season. Maize, Emerald, Navy and Copper (your traditional Fall colors) and Grey and Sky to lighten things up a little. See the whole collection here!

The inspiration for this collection was brought to me via Petaluma, CA. Shopping downtown there I discovered a beautiful, old, Mexican platter with rich, elegant colors. I’m a sucker for old Mexican pottery (not the new stuff) so I grabbed this piece to bring home. And so started the creative wheels turning. I loved that the colors were bold but not too bright – that they would go with some of my other designs and that they were perfect for the season. Possibly gracing my Thanksgiving table!

The patterns themselves became about line and scale. Fina, a large-scale, painterly flower, brings together all of the colors and is the jumping off point for the other two patterns – Encanta and Lena. Encanta is a mid-size floral and Lena the small-scale print. And together they are a mix and match heaven! But the varying scale of the patterns also makes it easy to stick with one colorway and still get an interesting mix.

Monochromatic done right depends on the mix of different scaled patterns. And in every collection I try to incorporate this, making it easy to use the entire collection together. I love how it turned out and I couldn’t help but put together some mock-ups showing headboards and pillows and the range of pairings that are possible.

Remember that all my fabrics are eco friendly fabrics and the fibers are all natural. In this case 100% linen. You really need to order a sample to get the feel of the texture and see the colors in person. I know you’ll love them too!
